State of the Arts: Charts on Charters

13 May

With the second round of the Race to the Top program starting soon, there has been a big push by ed reforms in New York to raise the cap on charter schools from 200 to 460. The legislation has already passed the Assembly and is on it’s way to the senate.

My issue with the legislation in it’s current form is that it does not allow much regulation in how tax-payer funded charter schools spend their money. We’ve seen what lax oversight and private corporations bring us. I’m looking at you, volcano of oil spewing from the gulf, and you, Wall Street bankers enjoying their tax-payer funded highlife. This can’t be allowed to happen to our kids. No way!

After learning about how some charter school management companies are pulling in some serious cash, I know why they don’t want the state to audit their books.

Now I’m a big fan of infographics. But I couldn’t find any on charter schools. So I decided to make one. So I read a little bit about design and tried my hand at one. Enjoy!
